Kenai City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission members will get an overview of the final state regulations for commercial marijuana tomorrow as they consider what municipal mandates to implement.

City Attorney Scott Bloom says he will be presenting a summary of the most recent set of rules passed by the Marijuana Control Board.

Bloom: “To give them a little perspective on what the Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended as far as what they’ve[MCB] done that’s mandatory versus where there may be some wiggle room that city council can change.”

The final set of rules by the board is being sent to the Lt. Governor Byron Mallott for his signature.

Bloom detailed a couple of areas the city will be able to weigh in on.

Bloom: “For example, the distance from marijuana establishments to places like churches, schools, that sort of things and how it’s measured. Outdoor growing, whether to allow that or not.”

City Planner Matt Kelley will also be presenting Kenai’s Planning and Zoning Commission recommendations in the form of an ordinance.

No action on the ordinance will be taken in the work session that begins at 6:00 pm Tuesday, December 1, at Kenai City Hall.
