Kenai’s unofficial election results have been released following the count of absentee and question ballots.

 

Bob Molloy and Mike Boyle have been reelected to the two open Kenai City Council seats(Molloy – 544 votes; Boyle – 434 votes)

 

Boyle stole the seat from fellow candidate Jim Glendening by just 17 votes(417 votes total) even though Glendening saw overwhelming support in absentee and question ballots(Absentee and question ballots : Glendening – 65; Boyle – 51).

 

Kenai Proposition 1 failed by six votes(No – 467; Yes – 461), which would have provided designated seats on the city council. Voters then would have decided on candidates running for a particular seat versus and all against all race.

 

The Kenai ballot initiative 2 passed by 69%(Yes – 649; No – 291), which allows city council meetings to be cancelled as long as at least 20 regular meetings per calendar year.

 

Kenai Proposition 3 failed by 61.8%(No – 582; Yes – 360) meaning individuals who intend to be city council candidates must still collect signatures from city voters.

 

These election results will be certified at the October 21 Kenai City Council meeting.
