Kenai’s Simon Grenier executed a deep, sacrifice fly to center field to score Talon Whicker and the Kardinals completed a walk-off, come-from-behind 9-8 victory over the Soldotna Stars in high school baseball action on Wednesday at the Kenai ball fields.
Kenai 9 – SoHi 8
The Kenai baseball Kardinals rallied from an early 6-0 deficit to defeat SoHi 9-8 in Southcentral Conference baseball.
Kenai, in the bottom of the seventh inning with the game tied at 8-8, scored the winning run with no outs on a sacrifice fly by Grenier.
The Stars lead early at 6-0 behind three scoreless innings on the mound by Addison Gibson. Kenai rallied against SoHi’s relief pitching scoring four runs in the fourth inning. The Stars posted a pair of runs for an 8-4 lead in the top of the sixth; only to have the Kardinals record four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Tied at 8-8 into the Kenai half of the seventh inning, the Kardinals opened with a walk to Xavier Amend; who was pinch-run for by Whicker. Whicker advanced to third base and scored on the Grenier RBI fly ball. Final Score: Kenai 9 – SoHi 8
