Kenai Battles To Combined First In Anchorage Pro-Whit Track Meet

The Kenai Kardinal track and field teams finished two-days of competition at the Pro-Whit Invitational with a combined first place on the strength of second place team finishes for both the girls and boys in a field including Lathrop from Fairbanks and nine teams from Anchorage.

The Kenai programs recorded nine first place finishes, six individual and three relay events.

The first day of competition in the Anchorage Dome included the 3200M run and all field events.

 

Kenai Top Performances:Girls

Allie Ostrander posted a 10:03.10 in the 3200M, the state’s fastest in a sanctioned 3200M and a time ten seconds faster than Alaska’s state record in the 3200M.  Teammates Riana Boonstra and Ithaca Bergholtz finished 3rd and 4th.

Allie also won the 800M in a state best 2:15.30 and raced to a 4:50.24 in the 1600M.  Boonstra finished 5th in the 1600M.

Kiana Harding won the girls long jump with a jump of 15’2 3/4″ and added a 5th in the 200M and 3rd in the high jump.

Kyla Whannell placed 4th in the 100M and Tekaiya Rich, 5th.  Abby Beck added a 3rd in the discus; Addison Gibson, 6th in the 400M; and Katie Kilfoyle, 6th in the 300M hurdles.

Kenai’s 4X200M Relay placed first and recorded the fastest time this season.  Kenai also won the 4X400M Relay; placed 3rd in the 4X100M Relay; and 5th in the 4X800M Relay.

Kenai Top Performances:Boys

The Theisen brothers proved unmatched in the distance events.  Jonah Theisen won the boys 3200M and finished second in the 1600M.  Jordan won the 1600M and finished second in the 3200M.  Jordan also placed 3rd in the 800M, with teammate Travis Cooper, fourth.

Josh Jackman placed in three individual events with a 3rd in the long jump, 2nd in the 300 M hurdles and 4th in the 110M hurdles.

In the discus, Tobias Randall placed 4th; Karl Danielson placed 6th in the discus.

The Kardinal’s won the 4X400M Relay with a state’s best time of 3:32.89. Kenai placed 4th in the 4X800M and 4X200M Relays.

 

Kenai Central will host the Kenai Invitational Track and Field Meet on Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25 at KCHS.
