A unique format for a unique season produced very predictable results.
The 2021 Kenai Peninsula Borough Nordic Ski Championships featured two, separate Saturday’s of competition and crowned individual championships based on combined freestyle and classic event results.
Kenai Peninsula Borough Nordic Ski Championships: Classic Race Results Saturday, February 20th
The classic-style 6.2-kilometer races on Saturday on the Tsalteshi Trails were competed in both girls and boys races.
In the girls classic race, SoHi’s Erika Arthur posted a time of 23 minutes and 47 seconds, holding off Kenai’s Jayna Boonstra at 24:10.
In the boys classic race, SoHi’s Quinn Cox posted a time of 19 minutes and 47 seconds defeating Kenai’s Jack Laker and Tyler Hippchen.

Girls Competition
Jayna Boonstra posted the fastest two-event total time of 42:10 to claim the overall Nordic Ski girls title.
Boonstra lead following the 5-kilometer freestyle event, having recorded at time of 18:00 on the Homer course last Saturday. Erika Arthur finished in-front-of Boonstra in the classic race on Saturday; however, Boonstra’s total, two-event time of 42:10 topped Arthur’s combined 42:59. SoHi’s Katie Delker posted a two-event total time of 43:47 for third place overall.
Boys Competition
Quinn Cox, of Soldotna High , raced to an individual victory in Saturday’s 6.2-kilometer classic style race posting a time which vaulted Cox past Kenai’s Jack Laker and Tyler Hippchen for the overall combined Kenai Peninsula Borough Nordic Ski Championship boys title.
In the freestyle event last Saturday, Kenai’s Tyler Hippchen posted a 16:06 and Jack Laker finished second in 16:20 with Cox finishing third in 16:32.
Cox made up the :26 second deficit by posting a 19:47 and winning the classic race by :34 seconds over Jack Laker and posting a combined total of 36:20. Kenai’s Laker finished second in the combined at 36:41 and Kenai’s Hippchen finished third with a 37:02.
