The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula is currently working with the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District to create a safe and responsible plan for opening to the youth in our community.

Their aim is to ensure they are doing everything in their power to offer a safe environment, which includes securing adequate supplies and plans in-place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Rachel Chaffee, Chief Executive Officer of Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula: “Right now, we’re working with the school district. Our highest priority is to ensure that if we are able to open, that we’re able to open in the safe and responsible way. We certainly don’t want to contribute to the increasing number of cases in the community. So, using mitigation plans, CDC guidance, OSHA guidance, and the other guidance that’s provided by the state of Alaska, we’re working up a plan to safely open and operate a Summer program for our community.”

She can not yet offer a firm date, but their hope to open no later than July 1: “You know, unfortunately, I would love to give an estimated time frame, but it’s really hard to provide that, especially with the ever-changing environment of what’s happening with COVID-19. So, it’s going to be a situational-based decision.”

They plan to open athletic programs, and registration is available on their website.
