The annual gala benefiting the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula will not have a physical presence this year, so you can put away your tuxedo and gowns in lieu of pajamas and comfy slippers. While the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai has maintained an open presence throughout the pandemic, their annual fundraiser auction is going virtual for 2020, ending on December 12.
The aim is financially bolstering what has been a tumultuous 2020, a year in which the Boys and Girls Clubs have been called upon perhaps more than any other year in recent memory, as children have not been able to attend their usual activities due to school closures while parents still must work.
Senator Peter Micciche, representing the Board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai, told KSRM that the Kenai has a history of supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs, and while this year has been tougher than most, he expects residents of the Kenai to turn out in full-force: “Participate on the 12th! Get your friends to participate! Do what you’ve always done in this community. I’ve always been so grateful to live here, how folks rise to the occasion when people are most in-need.”
Participating in the fundraiser can be done online, with registration and bidding taking place right now, and items being added regularly. The live close-out will take place on December 12 at 7:00 p.m. Final bids will take place live on Facebook. If none of the items tickle your fancy, the Boys and Girls Clubs has made it clear that they still need the help of the community, which is why direct donations are also being accepted.
Senator Micciche reminded residents of the Kenai that the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai is in-need, and reminded residents of the Kenai why this event is so imperative to the community: “I’ve been on the board since 1993, before I had kids – now I have four of my own. I know that so many in the community are struggling right now. It’s become such a necessary service, rather than just a place to go after-school… Right now, it’s such an imperative tool. I’m strongly requesting that the community gets involved this year, for this event, and helps us in a time that has been very challenging for the club and our community.”
