Kenai Boys & SoHi Girls Record Victories In Conference Openers: Mariners Down Bulldogs

The new look Peninsula Conference in the newly-formed Division II of high school soccer featured its first head-to-head pairings between Soldotna and Kenai on Tuesday and the SoHi girls and Kenai boys notched conference wins.

 

SoHi Girls 3 – Kenai 0

The Soldotna girls recorded a 3-0 shutout of the Kardinal girls behind a goal and a pair of corner assists from Journey Miller.  Miller gave the Stars a 1-0 halftime lead on her single goal; then the Stars added goals in the second half by Meijan Leaf and Cameron Blackwell.  Maddie Kindred recorded the shutout in goal for the Stars.

The SoHi girls improve to 2-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play.  Kenai drops to 0-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the Peninsula Conference.

 

Kenai Boys 2 – SoHi 1

With the final seconds clicking from the game clock (or wrist watch of the referee), the Kenai Kardinals freshman Leif Lofquist netted the game-winner for Kenai in a 2-1 Peninsula Conference victory at SoHi.

Lofquist scored in stoppage time to break a 1-1 deadlock.  Following a scoreless first half, Zack Tuttle gave Kenai a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute.  SoHi responded with the game-tying goal at the 57th minute by Luke Trammell.

The Kardnal boys advance to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Peninsula Conference; SoHi drops to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The SoHi boys host Houston on Wednesday for a varsity contest scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Justin Maile Field.

The Kardinal boys travel to Southeast, Alaska for a three game series beginning on Thursday in Juneau against Thunder Mountain.  The Kardinals play Juneau Douglas on Friday and Ketchikan (in Ketchikan) on Saturday.

 

Nikiski Girls 0  – Homer 3

The Mariner girls improved to 1-0-1 in the Peninsula Conference with a 3-0 shutout of the Nikiski girls.

 

Nikiski Boys 1 – Homer 6

The Homer Mariners scored three goals in each half on Tuesday to record a 6-1 Peninsula Conference decision over the Nikiski boys in Homer.  Homer’s Charles Rohr netted a three-goal, hat trick.  Nikiski’s lone goal scorer was not available in game stats on asaa365.com.  The Mariners improve to 2-0 in conference play; Nikiski stands at 0-1.
