Kenai Chamber Debuting Young Professionals Program

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will be unveiling a new program to encourage local networking in the young professional community.

 

Pamela Parker is the new Programs Coordinator at the Chamber and says the idea developed as a collaboration with Chamber President Johna Beech.

Parker: “I moved up here from Florida and there was already a very strong young professionals presence where I was and so I’d been thinking of it when I came up here and I realized that there wasn’t really much in the area that was available for people my age to do professionally. So I had thought of stuff to do already. Then Johna came back from a conference and said, ‘I just heard about this Young Professionals thing, look into it and see what you can come up with,’ and it was perfect timing because we both were on the same wavelength with it and it just took off from there.”

 

Kenai Young Professionals will be for individuals ages 21-39 and is designed to connect business professional peers with professional development and community opportunities.

 

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce is acting as the platform for the program and an advisory council to the group will help determine its direction along with what kinds of events it will take part in.

 

Young Professional programs nationwide have been founded as a way for this generation to network outside the means of social media.

 

Parker says the first Kenai Young Professionals event will be debuted later this month.
