The Kenai City Council accepted and appropriated an American Rescue Plan Act Grant passed through the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services for Kenai Senior Center Expenditures in Support of its Response to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.
On March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 was signed into law on March 11, 2021 to provide additional support services to older adults and people with disabilities in the community affected by the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency. Many COVID-19 precautions have been put in place over the years to ensure the safety of the public.
The Kenai Senior Center receives a yearly grant from the State of Alaska, under the Title III Nutrition, Transportation, and Services (NTS) Program. They have been given an additional amount of $35,795.44 for FY23. These funds will be utilized to provide additional operating supplies for home and congregate meals.
In addition to these funds, the Council accepted and appropriated a $16,992 increase from the Kenai Peninsula Borough for the Senior Citizen Program Grant.
In the memorandum, Kathy Romain says the increase will be very beneficial towards the Senior Center’s expenditures.
