The Kenai City Council has passed a resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into an Airline Operating Agreement and Terminal Area Lease with Aleutian Airways. Aleutian Airways plans to begin scheduled passenger service at the Kenai Municipal Airport in June 2025.

Sterling Airways dba Aleutian Airways announced in Feb. 2025 that it will begin scheduled service to Kenai, Alaska, from Anchorage on June 6. The initial schedule will offer two daily roundtrip flights utilizing Saab 2000 aircraft, a 35-minute flight between the two cities.

“[Aleutian’s] tagline is ‘being the strongest link in the chain,'” said company communications director Wendy Rose. “We want to provide the community the travel assets that it needs to meet its needs. And, of course, we also want to bring in people who want to enjoy the beauty of Kenai. So, hopefully, this is a great option for everyone.”

In order to operate as a signatory operator at the airport and secure terminal space, Aleutian Airways must sign the City’s standard agreement and lease. The Airport Commission recommended that the City Council approve the agreement.

The Council determined that authorizing the City Manager to finalize the agreement is in the best interest of both the City of Kenai and the Airport.

The resolution allows the City Manager to proceed with the agreement using the City’s standard form for signatory operators.
