The Kenai City Council will discuss the adoption of the annual budget for fiscal year 2015, along with the construction of Daubenspeck Beach.

City Manager Rick Koch spoke about a memo added to the budget.

Koch: “Counselor Gabriel has put a memorandum in the packet in which he speaks to a number of expenditure items and an increase in one revenue item in order to achieve a balanced or near balanced budget without increasing the mill rate. So I think that will be the majority of the conversation or at least from what I know will be the majority of the conversation this evening.”

Koch said that the memo is not the same as the substitute ordinance put forth by the administration that adds $15,000 to the budget for storefront improvement program.

He said that the council will also go over awarding an agreement for the construction of a sandy beach at the Daubenspeck Family Park behind WalMart.

Koch: “At one point in time it must have been a gravel pit for somebody and so it’s that lake and because of the several million dollars worth of funds that the Daubenspeck family provided to the city by virtue of donating some land and gas wells, the council thought that was an appropriate venue to have named in their honor so that’s the Daubenspeck Family Park.”

The council will meet at 7pm and Koch said council members Brian Gabriel and Bob Molloy will be participating telephonically tonight.
