Kenai City Council to Amend Night Parking Code

The Kenai City Council is set to hear public testimony on an ordinance amendment addressing night parking during certain times of the year.

Vice Mayor Ryan Marquis said there is an existing ordinance prohibiting parking on streets during certain times of they year and detailed what they are amending.

Marquis: “Namely the months when there’s snow on the ground, and that’s to allow the city vehicles to get through and plow the roads without worrying about people’s vehicles. From my understanding we currently don’t have a fine for that so there’s a big process where people have to be issued a summons and go to court and then it’s established there, so by setting a fine for it in our schedule of fines that will avoid a lot of that bureaucratic stuff.”

Also during that meeting, recently elected Henry Knackstedt will be administered his Oath of Office and be able to take a seat on the council.

Mayor Pat Porter and Councillor Tim Navarre will not be present at the November 5 meeting.

That meeting will start at 7:00 pm in the Kenai City Council Chambers.
