The Kenai Community Library is once again hosting its Summer Food Service Program, which provides free meals to children and teens 18 and under every Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. through August 12.
The program is designed to bridge the nutrition gap that many children face during summer break, when school meals are unavailable.
“This program helps fill that gap between the school years,” said Katja Wolfe, Library Director. “It’s been incredibly popular—last Tuesday alone, we handed out more than 250 meals.”
Meals are available through a non-congregate pickup system, allowing families to take food home.
Each eligible child can receive up to seven meals per week, but must be present to collect them at the library’s main desk. There are no sign-ups or requirements—all kids are welcome.
“This program is really needed, and we’re grateful we can offer it,” Said Wolfe.
The initiative is made possible in partnership with the Food Bank of Alaska.
The library also has a lineup of summer events, including the Summer Reading Program Final Boss Party, a scavenger hunt, storytimes, and an adult Escape Room.
