Kenai Continues Work Acquiring Land Parcels

The Kenai City Council has nearly acquired all the parcels needed for the Bluff Erosion Restoration Project.

The latest additions are Lots 8 and 9, Block 19, of the Original Townsite of Kenai from Billy McCann Et Al. and Glenda Sterling.

Council member Henry Knackstedt asked about the remaining parcels to be acquired and Kenai City Manager Terry Eubank explained that there are only three parcels remaining and that the process of acquiring the other parcels is underway.

One of the property owners is deceased and the City will need to retain outside council to obtain sufficient title to the property. Further complicating the purchase, the Borough assessment went from $200 in 2021, to $1,800 in 2022.

The City of Kenai is working with the Kenai Peninsula Borough to address this increase.  Time is of the essence in the purchase of the property to maintain the timeline for the Bluff Erosion Restoration Project.
