The Kenai City Council will consider the sale of a parcel of land currently owned by the Kenai Airport during their regular meeting tomorrow evening.
The lot sits at the corner of the Kenai Spur Highway and Main Street Loop and most recently housed Davis & Sons BBQ.
Kenai City Manager Rick Koch says an out-of-state businessman made an offer he couldn’t refuse…
Koch: “The city received an unsolicited offer to purchase that property, the offer was $170,400 and if I recall correctly, the appraised value is $146,000. There is a mathematical process that I go through to try to determine the value to the Airport as a lease property, given certain assumptions about when it will be leased or not leased, versus the sale. And $170,400 is an attractive sales price.”
The ordinance accompanying the possible sale says that parcel is not needed for a public purpose and asks that negotiations begin in order to sell the lot to Ronald and Shirley Smith for no less than $170,000.
The ordinance also clarified that the most recent appraisal of the property in February of 2015 valued it at $142,600.
The Kenai City Council meeting will begin at 6 pm Wednesday, March 16, in the Kenai Council Chambers.
