Firefighters in Kenai are hoping to raise over $6,000 for muscular dystrophy with their second annual Fill the Boot Event.

Kenai Fire Chief Jeff Tucker says the department raised around $6,000 last year.

Chief Tucker: “Today the Kenai Firefighter’s Association is doing our annual muscular dystrophy association Fill the Boot drive, we’re going to be out on the corner of Kenai Spur Highway and Main Street here in Kenai from 2 pm to approximately 6 pm.”

He says muscular dystrophy affects almost every community, year-round, and outlined how to donate if you miss today’s event.

Chief Tucker: “You can always go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s website which is very easy, it’s www.mda.org.”

Since 1954 when Fill the Boot events were began, the International Firefighters Association has raised over $530 million for MDA(as of spring 2014).
