Kenai Girls Claim Homer Soccer Title: Juneau Tops Boys Field At Kenai

A pair of invitational soccer tournaments crowned champions on Saturday with the Kenai Kardinal girls winning the Homer Girls Soccer Fest and the Juneau boys topping the field at the Kenai Invitational Cup Boys Tournament.

 

Homer Soccer Fest Girls Tournament

Kenai Girls 1 – SoHi 0

In the championship game, the Kenai girls scored a single, second half goal to defeat SoHi 1-0 and claim the tournament title.

Kylee Verkuillen scored on a penalty kick for Kenai, following a SoHi hand ball, for the game’s only score.

Nikiski Girls 3 – Palmer 2  SO

The Nikiski girls recorded their second, straight tournament victory on Saturday with a 3-2 shootout win over the Palmer Moose.  The Bulldogs netted goals by Savanna Stock and Zoey Ellis in regulation and in the shootout, outshot the Moose with three goals.

Homer Girls 3 – Kodiak 1

 

Kenai Invitational Cup Boys Tournament

Juneau closed tournament play at 3-0 with a championship game victory 2-1 over the Palmer Moose.

SoHi Boys 2 – Kenai 1  SO

The Soldotna Stars, on Saturday, defeated Kenai 2-1 in a penalty kick showdown for third place overall.  Soldotna’s Simon Willets score to give SoHi a 1-0 lead; Bridger Beck answered with a Kenai goal for a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation.  Willets netted the game-winner in the five-round shootout; Shootout Count: SoHi 4- Kenai 3.

The Homer Mariners closed tournament play with a 3-1 win over Kodiak.
