Great goaltending and a late-surge by the Kenai offense resulted in a 3-1 win for the Kenai Kardinals hockey team over the Soldotna Stars at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex on Tuesday night in the first pairing between the cross-town rivals.
Kenai 3 – SoHi 1
The Kardinals opened the scoring with a mid-first period goal by Aiden Milburn for a 1-0 lead. SoHi answered with an Andrew Arthur goal with just two seconds remaining in the first to tie the game at 1-1 at the break.
Following a scoreless second period, Kenai took the lead on a power-play goal by Gavin Langham at 6:16 of the third period. The Kardinals recorded an empty-net goal off the stick of Blake Bucho with just .4 seconds remaining. Final Score: Kenai 3, SoHi 1.
Kenai goalie Thomas Baker recorded 23 saves on 24 shots and SoHi goalie Ayden See notched 36 saves.
