For a second, straight game against the Colony Knights, the Kenai Kardinals held the Division I Knights to a single goal with solid team defense anchored by goalie Evyn Witt.
Kenai recorded a 3-1 non-divisional victory over Colony, never trailing in Friday night’s game at the Kenai Multi-Purpose Facility.
Kenai 3 – Colony 1
A two-goal night for Kenai’s Avery Martin opened with Kenai’s lone goal in the first period. Kenai and Colony played a scoreless second period leading to a 1-0 advantage into the third for Kenai.
Logan Mese gave the Kardinals a two-goal cushion with a goal at 6:19 assisted by Caden Warren. An insurance goal by Martin at 4:43 staked Kenai to a 3-0 lead. A late Colony goal closed the scoring with Kenai recording a 3-1 victory over Colony.
For a second night, Evyn Witt recorded 20 saves on 21 shots.
The Soldotna Stars play Colony on Saturday night at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex at 5 p.m.
