The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating recent reports of lasers being aimed at aircraft in Kenai and Homer.
Two reports came from the Kenai Airport and along with two from the Homer Airport according to the FAA. Recently the Federal Bureau of Investigation launched a public service announcement reminding Americans that aiming lasers at aircraft is against the law.
Aiming a laser pointer at aircraft is a violation of federal law, a felony offense punishable by five years in jail.
The powerful beam of light from a laser pointer can travel more than a mile, interfering with pilots who are navigating aircraft. The FAA reports that pilots subject to such attacks have described disorientation and temporary blindness which sometimes requires medical attention.
The FAA asks that anyone with information on the recent incidences in Kenai or Homer report what they know to local law enforcement or contact the FAA.
