Kenai & Homer Win Consolation Games At Basketball State

The 2021 March Madness Alaska 3A and 4A State Basketball Championships continued on Friday with consolation and winner’s-bracket semi-final games contested at three Mat-Su high schools.

 

The Kenai Kardinals and Homer Mariners, representing the Southcentral Conference, recorded victories in their consolation games on Friday.

Kenai defeated Nome 43-29; Homer downed Hutchison 60-20.  In a normal state tournament format, Kenai and Homer would play in the fourth place game on Saturday.  For 2021, only championship games will be contested on Saturday at Palmer High School.

3A Girls Game Results

Kenai 43 – Nome 29

The Kenai Kardinals pulled-away from the Nome Nanooks in the third quarter of Kenai’s consolation game on Friday at Colony High School, defeating Nome 43-29.

Emma Beck lead the scoring for Kenai with 13 points after a slow first half by the Kenai offense; Kenai outscored Nome 13-4 in the third quarter.  Kenai finishes tournament play with a 1-1 record.

Homer 60 – Hutchison 20

The Homer Mariners jump to an early 16-4 lead and extended to a 33-11 halftime advantage.  Homer continued to dominate the Hawks in the second half enroute to the 60-20 victory.  Laura Inama lead the Mariners with 20 points and Hannah Hatfield added 11 points.
