Stars Sweep Kardinals In NLC Basketball Battle

The cross-town, conference rivals from Kenai Central and Soldotna high schools mark their schedules each year for the basketball pairings between the two Northern Lights Conference opponents.

 

Round one goes to the Soldotna Stars.

 

SoHi Girls 49 – Kenai Girls 41

The Soldotna stars record a Northern Lights Conference basketball victory over Kenai 49-41 on Tuesday at KCHS, building a nine-point lead through three quarters and holding the lead for the victory.

The Stars lead 12-6 after one quarter and 22-20 at the half.  A 17-point third quarter allowed SoHi to pull-out to a nine point advantage.  Aliann Schmidt lead the Stars with 14 points and Brooke Satathite lead the Kards with 15 points.

 

SoHi Boys 52 – Kenai 39

A 35-11 second half run by the Stars carried SoHi past the Kenai Kardinals 52-39 in Northern Lights Conference action Tuesday.

The Kardinals opened a 17-4 lead after one quarter and held a 28-17 lead at the half.  The second half belonged to the Stars lead by 21 second half points by Jersey Truesdall.  Kenai held a 36-34 lead after three quarters; however managed only one field goal and one freethrow in the fourth quarter.  Truesdall lead all scorers with 28 points; Luke Beiser lead the Kardinals with 15 points.

The Kardinal boys will play in the Nikiski Tip-Off Tournament at Nikiski High School beginning with a Thursday pairing against Monroe Christian from Fairbanks scheduled for a 4:15 p.m. start.
