The Kenai Lake Overlook Fire is at 100% containment, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Resources continued to mop up the fire on Wednesday with no continued growth.
Darin Watschke with the U.S. Forest Service tells KSRM that crews met the suppression objective, and 100% containment was reached at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. The Kenai Lake Overlook Fire grew to 4.3 acres due to improved mapping, according to the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center Wildland Fire Dashboard.
The White Mountain T21A crew has, since, demobilized and resources with the U.S. Forest Service will continue to staff the area by mopping up hot spots as well as checking the half acre West Juneau fire (also reported in the same region) which began on Mother’s Day.
The U.S. Forest Service also thanked the Cooper Landing Volunteer Fire Department, the Alaska Division of Forestry, Kenai Peninsula Borough, and Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities for their help in limiting the spread of the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
