The Alaska House Labor and Commerce Committee will hold two conferences discussing the Affordable Health Care Act next week.
The Kenai Legislative Office will host the hearings on October 7 and 8 starting at 1:00 pm both days.
Recently Matthew Felling in U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski’s office said it’s becoming increasingly clear that the law is not a good fit for Alaska…
Felling: “It is not a political issue as much as it’s just applied mathematics from grade school, the economic structure of the bill does not work in Alaska, we have a small population, we have two health care providers, this bill relies on millions and millions of people in a pool so that it spreads the risk around and it spreads those costs out. That is not Alaska and that is what’s causing the 30% premium hikes that are stressing household budgets statewide and having repercussions on the economy, when people have less expendable income because they’re putting down hundreds more on health care, they’re spending less out in their local economies and communities.”
Legislators plan to discuss the expected costs of insurance and hear public testimony that will be by invitation only on both of those days.
Those interested in listening at the local office are asked to notify the Kenai Legislative Office at 283-2030 by Monday, October 6th.
Those hearings will also be streamed on Alaska Legislature.TV online.
