Kenai Man Arrested for Attempted Murder

A Kenai resident was shot at in his home Monday in an altercation which authorities believe may be linked to drugs and alcohol.

 

The Kenai Police Department received a report at around 11:29 pm Monday, February 8, stating a resident living on Highland Ave. in Kenai had been shot at.

 

Investigation found that 22-year-old Masonn Byrd of Kenai had entered the apartment building and made contact with the resident.

 

When the victim opened their door, Byrd confronted him, pulled the rifle from behind his back, and shot at him.

 

The Kenai Police report states that the victim sustained injuries while diving out of the way of the shot fired.

 

Following investigation, Byrd was contacted and arrested by Kenai Police on charges of attempted murder in the first degree, assault in the second degree, misconduct involving weapons in the second and third degrees, burglary in the first degree, reckless endangerment, and false information.

 

Kenai Police report that there was no apparent connection between the suspect and the victim but say that drugs and alcohol may have been a factor.
