The Soldotna Alaska State Trooper K-9 Team arrested a 23-year-old who faces multiple criminal charges. On Tuesday night around 9:21 p.m. troopers contacted the driver of a vehicle who was found to be passed out and slumped over the steering wheel of a maroon 2000 GMC truck near the intersection of K-Beach and Poppy Lane. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Matthew Luke of Kenai.
A search warrant was conducted after drugs were indicated on the vehicle through the K-9 team. A vehicle search resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, heroin, alprazolam, and suboxone. During a legal blood draw at Central Peninsula Hospital, Luke attempted to escape custody and proceeded to run away on foot where he was apprehended with the assistance of K-9 Donna, CPH Security and Soldotna Police. Luke was transported and remanded to Wildwood Pretrial on multiple criminal charges. They include DUI for controlled substances, 4 counts of 4th degree misconduct involving controlled substances and 2nd degree escape. He also was charged with violating the conditions of his release as he’s on release for the original charges of DUI for controlled substance and 4th degree misconduct involving controlled substances as well as separate charge of violating the conditions of release.
In addition to those, Luke also was charged in a separate case for false report, 4th misconduct involving controlled substance and a separate violating the conditions of release. His release conditions state that he is to obey all laws and not to consume or possess illegal drugs.
Luke also has a prior 4th degree misconduct involving criminal substance charges from September 25, 2019.
