A third suspect, originally from Kenai, was taken into custody over the weekend in the case where two brothers were assaulted and left to die on a road in Hatcher Pass.
23-year-old Michael Charles Elder, from Kenai, was indicted for kidnapping and assault last week by an Anchorage Grand Jury, but was not yet in state custody. On Saturday Elder was taken into custody at the Palmer Police Department without incident.
The charges stem from a case which began on October 27, when a passerby in Hatcher Pass found two brothers in their early 20’s who had been shot and left on the roadway.
State prosecutors say three suspects bound and beat the brothers, 22-year-old Kevin Kirlin and 23-year-old Keeton Kirlin, at a home over a missing wallet. They were then driven to Hatcher Pass where they were shot and left to die. The brothers are expected to make full recoveries.
The three suspects, 34-year-old Matthew Scharber, 26-year-old Corey Sylva and Elder were indicted on Thursday and are now all suspects in state custody.
