Two Kenai employees are paving the way for police safety in Alaska with a simple yet revolutionary approach…
Sgt. McBride: “These guys were innovators when they did this, that’s why they won the award.”
Kenai Sgt. Scott McBride showed off the police car improvements at last night’s City Council meeting. Kenai Shop Foreman Randy Parrish and Mechanic Scott Morris wont the Alaska Safety Council’s Innovation Safety Award earlier this month for moving complicated equipment from between the vehicle’s front seats. With the increased space, officers can now slide or lay across the front if necessary.
Morris said they started brainstorming with officers about how they could upgrade the vehicles…
Morris: “The other cars, before we built this one, police officers once they were sitting in the driver’s seat, they were almost stuck there. They couldn’t lay over or scoot over if they had to, they had so much stuff between the seats.
Improvements were also made in the back, so that officers will no longer have to lean across a passenger to buckle their seatbelt.
