The Kenai Kardinals and Nikiski Bulldogs finished third and fourth in the boys team standings at the 2021 Kachemak Conference Wresting Championships, behind defending champion Redington and runner-up Houston.
Kachemak Conference Boys Champions
Kenai Central
Talon Whicker, wrestling at 125 pounds, and Andrew Gaethle, wrestling at 152 pounds, earned individual weight class championships for the Kenai Kardinals in Houston at the Kachemak Conference tournament.
The top three wrestlers in each weight class automatically advance to the ASAA Division II Wrestling Championships, along with four at-large berths determined by ASAA.
Automatic State qualifiers for Kenai include (2nd & 3rd place): Owen Whicker, second at 130; Antonio Perez, third at 135; Elijah Dambacher, third at 140; Reymond Perez, third at 145 and Morgan Stark, third at 189.
Possible state qualifiers for KCHS: Delen Byrd, fourth at 135 and Zoticus Active, fifth at 189.
Nikiski Bulldogs
Wyatt Maguire at 119 pounds and Simon Grenier at 171 pounds earned individual weight class championships for the Nikiski Bulldogs in Houston at the Kachemak Conference tournament.
Automatic State qualifiers for Kenai include (2nd & 3rd place): Robert Isabel, second at 215; Mayaac Schmit, second at 285. Possible state qualifiers: Sam Yerkes, fourth at 145; Jackson Wittmer, fifth at 160; Seth Payne, fourth at 160; Truit McCaughey, sixth at 171 and Tim Goodnight, sixth at 189.
Kachemak Conference Girls Champions
Kenai Central
The Kenai girls finished second in the team scoring behind Redington with Homer third and Nikiski fourth.
Kenai’s Sarai Bravo-Moe wrestled to an individual title at 130 pounds. Jalyn Yeoman placed second at 135 and Simone Watts placed second at 160 and earned automatic state championship berths. Jenna Yeoman placed third at 160 for Kenai and is in-line for a state berth.
Nikiski Bulldogs
Jasmine Durfee finished fourth at 160 pounds, Madalyn Stichal placed fourth at 135 and Shyra Loomis placed fifth at 135; all possible state tournament qualifiers.
