The opening week of high school football produced a pair of road losses for central peninsula football programs from Kenai Central and Nikiski.
Kenai 15 – Lathrop 49
The Kardinals fell 49-15 to the Lathrop Malemutes in Fairbanks on Saturday in a pairing of Division II programs.
Lathrop, in its first game in Division II football-having changed classifications, powered over the Kardinals. Kenai trailed 21-13 in the second quarter; Lathrop controlled play for the remainder of the game.
Titus Riddall rushed for two touchdowns and 80 yards; quarterback Connor Felchle completed 10 of 12 passes.
Nikiski 8 – Barrow 40
The Bulldogs traveled to Utqiaġvik to face the 2017 Division III champion Barrow Whalers. Barrow lead 6-0 at the half and extended to a 40-8 victory.
The Bulldogs lone touchdown was recorded in the fourth quarter with a Noah Litke touchdown pass to Cody Handley.
