The Kenai Kardinals football team recorded a road Northern Lights Conference 42-28 victory over Eagle River and the Nikiski Bulldogs downed Voznesenka 40-18 in Peninsula Conference action on Saturday.
Kenai 42 – Eagle River 28
The Kenai Kardinals recorded their first NLC victory in a high scoring 42-28 battle with the Wolves.
The Kardinals opened the scoring on their first drive converting a 1-yard touchdown run by Rykker Riddall; however, the Wolves answered and lead 8-6 after one quarter.
Kenai added two, unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter; a 9-yard run by Tyrone McEnerney capping a 93-yard drive, and a one play 70-yard touchdown pass from Connor Felchle to Zack Tuttle. The Kards lead 20-8 at the half.
Eagle River scored to close the gap mid-way through the third; Kenai answered with a 7-yard touchdown pass, again to Tuttle, to close the quarter–Kenai 26 -Eagle River 14.
Both teams scored twice in the final quarter with Titus Riddall scoring on a 4-yard run and scoring on an interception return of 40 yards.
Final Score: Kenai 42 – Eagle River 28
The Kardinals improve to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the NLC.
Nikiski 40 – Voznesenka 18
The Bulldogs outscored the Cougars 40-18 for a Peninsula Conference victory in Homer on Saturday.
Nikiski improves to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Peninsula Conference.
