The Christmas holiday features the 50th Annual Joe Floyd Basketball Tournament in Kodiak and the Kenai Kardinal girls and Ninilchik boys are among the teams participating in the three-day, round-robin format tournament.
Wednesday Game Results: Joe Floyd Tournament
Kenai Girls 31 – West Valley 39
The Kenai girls battled West Valley in the second round of the Joe Floyd Tournament on Wednesday, falling 39-31 to the Wolfpack. Kenai trailed by only three points entering the fourth quarter; however, the Wolfpack outscored the Kardinals 12-7 in the final quarter for the eight point win. Brooke Satathite lead Kenai in scoring with 13 points, Bethany Coghill added nine points.
Kenai faces Fort Pierce Central High from Florida in the tournament’s final round with a scheduled 1:30 p.m. game on Thursday afternoon. Follow the Kardinals on ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com.
Kodiak Boys 66 – Ninilchik Boys 53
The Ninilchik Wolverines suffered a slow first quarter against the Kodiak Bears on Wednesday and faced an up-hill battle in a 66-53 loss to the Kodiak Bears on the Bears home floor. Ninilchik trailed 25-12 after one quarter and matched the Bears in scoring for the final three quarters. Austin White scored 25 points and Tyler Presley added 18 points for the Wolverines. Final Score: Kodiak 66 – Ninilchik 53
The Wolverines’ Thursday scheduled opponent was to be Wrangell; however, the Wrangell boys pulled-out of the tournament, setting up a game on Thursday for Ninilchik against the Kodiak Alumni (the game will not count on the Wolverines official record).
