The City of Kenai has opened a request for proposals period for the building and land that used to be the home for the bowling alley near the intersection of the Kenai Spur Highway and Bridge Access Road.
Kenai City Manager Rick Koch says they willing to take proposals for three alternatives.
Koch: “The first would be for an interested party to lease the property and lease the building. The second alternative would be for an interested party to lease the property and purchase the building. And the third alternative would be for an interested party to purchase both the property and the building.”
He said the building that sits on airport owned land appraised for around $400,000 in 2015. There has not been an appraisal done yet this year but the city is in the process of getting one done and that will be added to the RFP information.
When discussions of what to do with the closed bowling alley began last year, a group of bowlers came forward to rally efforts to renovate and reopen the facility for bowling.
Charlotte Yamada has been attending city council meetings giving regular updates on their progress and in December she presented their plan to secure funding and submit a proposal to the city.
Yamada: “So it’s going cost a pretty penny and it’s going to take a lot of work but you know, we like the challenge.”
The old bowling alley closed last summer when its lease expired.
