Kenai Peninsula Agencies Work with State for Better Business Climate

A Kenai Peninsula wide cooperation by cities and various chambers of commerce is working with the state to improve local business climate.

 

Executive Director Rick Roeske with the Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District says local areas have one of the best diversified economies in the state.

Roeske: “Obviously we’re not going to compete with Anchorage, but we’re really spread out. We’ve got we’ve got fishing, we’ve got retail, we’ve got the hospital, we’ve got government, we’ve got private industry, and unlike some communities in Alaska we are more broadly based. And when we get money circulating that’s good, we’re not tied to any one particular industry and so being a little more broadly based we can weather some of the downturns in any one particular sector.”

 

He says data is being collected from all over the Kenai Peninsula by two surveys: one for oil and gas industries and one for all other businesses.

 

Those surveys aim to investigate the current business climate, what can be done to keep current companies flourishing, and how to encourage more ventures to develop.
