Updated 10:11 a.m.: Corrected story to reflect that the money had already been approved; the resolution’s aim was to make official what the money is being used on.
The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly offered details on $50,000 being utilized by the borough to help meet public relations objectives in 2021 for the borough during their Tuesday night meeting.
Passed unanimously on the assembly’s consent agenda, Resolution 2021-003 discussed details on utilizing money aimed “for services to market the borough to a non-areawide basis with a focus on public relations, applying objectives to be approved by the assembly.”
There are three public relations objectives, starting with Phase I, which is set to be completed by June 30. The objectives aim to promote the borough municipal services provided to citizens, an effort that Borough Mayor Charlie Pierce noted in a memo as “necessary to inform the public.”
Future goals will promote economic development by highlighting diverse opportunities on the Kenai, as well as promoting the existing tourism and marketing efforts from third party contributors.
