COVID vaccine appointments are available for people across the Kenai Peninsula interested in signing up.
The Seward Community Health Center recently announced that COVID-19 vaccines will be administered there on Monday, February 8, 2021. Frances Azzad-Smith, Outreach Community Health Coordinator for the Health Center spoke to KSRM, “As you know, at the moment, per the state of Alaska guidelines, this is for people age 65 and older. We are letting the community of Seward, Moose Pass, the surrounding communities, letting them know that if they are 65 and older and they are interested in getting their vaccine, they can call us and they can be scheduled for our clinic on Monday.”
A social media post from the Kenai Peninsula Borough’s KPB Alerts Facebook page earlier this week reported that there were appointments available in the Central Peninsula for a clinic on Saturday, February 13 and other clinics are available for appointments throughout the month of February. In the Southern Peninsula, clinics will take place February 5th and 6th in Homer. Appointments available at http://sphosp.org.
Kenai Peninsula Borough Emergency Manager Dan Nelson, “For most areas of the Kenai Peninsula, you can see new vaccine clinics that are available for people to register. You can always register by going to covidvax.alaska.gov. Remember to search for your provider or in the area on that site to see availability. Most clinics will have you sign up on that site, but there may be a telephone number or other ways to sign up for certain areas. Please check for a clinic near you if you are part of the eligible tier to receive a COVID-19 vaccination. As a reminder, that tier is residents that are over 65 years of age or healthcare workers. Further tiers will be opening up later as supply chains improve, but right now those two tiers are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.”
For the Kenai Peninsula Borough as a total, there have been over 5,500 COVID-19 vaccines distributed with around 1,500 people that have received the two-dose vaccines.
Nelson provides a number of ways for people to get vaccinated if they’re interested, “I encourage you to continue using the covidvax.alaska.gov website. If you don’t have access to technology and can’t sign up online, we have a few different options that’s available to assist you. Keep in mind, we do have a call center that is staffed by volunteers that are able to put people on a waiting list and we’ll try and get phone calls to the people as we have vaccine availability. If you don’t have access to that website or need assistance, please feel free to call our information line that is 262-INFO or 262-4636.”
Those who are eligible to get vaccinated are encouraged to register by going online to http://myhealth.alaska.gov or http://covidvax.alaska.gov
If you know a senior 65 years of age or older who needs assistance to make an appointment, please help them register for a vaccine clinic if you are able to do so, or refer them to the KPB Call Center which operates Monday-Friday from 9am-12 noon: Central Peninsula 262-4636; Homer 235-4636; Seward 224-4636.
