The Kenai Peninsula Borough is scheduling a 2021 Land Sale Auction for August 14th at 10:00 a.m. This year, the Borough will be offering 27 parcels for sale by way of a live outcry auction, to be held in accordance with and subject to the terms contained in the Kenai Peninsula Borough Code.

Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Charlie Pierce:

There’s a lot of work that goes into these land sales. Folks think that you can just list your land and sell it, but the land all has to be surveyed. They do a lot of control, the deeds and all the titles on the land are all cleared. There’s 27 parcels scheduled to take place on August the 14th at 10:00. Registration opens at 9:00 so if you’re interested in buying some land, be there early.”

The live land sale is to take place at the Soldotna High School Auditorium. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the live auction to start at 10:00 a.m. All participants interested in bidding must register prior to placing a bid. No bids will be accepted from unregistered bidders. The established reserve / minimum bid amount for each parcel of land is shown when identifying sale parcels within the interactive map.

Pierce says that the Kenai Peninsula Borough tries to put out a land sale auction each year:

Since I’ve become mayor, I’ve had many folks come to me and say you should be selling some of this land that you hold and you’re holding. We have always tried to do that. It’s been a priority on our list of things to do. I’ve pushed it and paid real close attention to it in making sure that it happens.”

Immediately following the sale and prior to leaving the facility, the winning bidder will need to check out with Kenai Peninsula Borough staff where they will need to provide documentation including bid number, valid identification, an executed Power of Attorney (if bidding on behalf of an absent party), and confirm contact information, mailing and emailing address (if available). After that point, the winning bidder will complete and execute the purchase and sale agreement. Only the name of the winning bidder and the parties named as buyer(s) on the purchase and sale agreement will be included on the closing documents.
