Alaska Division of Forestry burn permit suspensions remain in effect today, August 17 for the Kenai Peninsula as well as the Mat-Su Valley. The suspension remains in-effect due to hot and dry conditions, according to a social media message from the Division of Natural Resources.
Small and large-scale brush burning and the use of burn barrels are prohibited during a burn permit suspension. The Division of Forestry asks all residents on the Kenai and the Mat-Su Valley to adhere to the burn suspension to help prevent human-caused wildfires.
Failure to comply with the burn suspension may result in a citation and fine.
Campfires less than three feet in diameter with flame lengths less than two feet high are allowed during a burn suspension, but the Division of Forestry advises making sure any campfire is completely extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving it.
