The Kenai Chamber of Commerce is teaming together with the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District to host the 2021 Career & Education Fair. The event will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center Parking Lot with event parking at the old Carrs Mall.
Sara Bieber, who works with the Alaska Department of Labor at the Peninsula Job Center, was joined by Brittany Brown, President at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce:
“Brittany and I are here this morning to promote a partnership that we are doing with Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District, the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and the Alaska Department of Labor, specifically the Peninsula Job Center. We have a 2021 Career and Education Fair coming up on September 21st in the parking lot for the Kenai Chamber and Visitor Center. We are going to be registering employers. We are going to be connecting employers with job seekers who are looking for work during the fall season and promoting jobs and the services that we have available.”
Brown said that the idea came from fellow chamber members:
“You know, we had members coming to us, asking us to help them post their jobs, if we knew of anybody looking for jobs, because they were struggling. We’re seeing this all over, not only in our community, but statewide and countrywide, the lack of employers. With that, we came together and brainstormed an idea to put on a career and education fair and I just want to add onto what Sara was saying that we’re connecting folks with jobs but also educational opportunities. The Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District just launched a workforce development website which allows people to go on and take a look at the different opportunities that they have, different career paths, and guides them in that direction of what type of education do I need, what certifications do I need. I thought that this would be a great opportunity to combine the two things the resources that the job center has available to our community members as well as that resource that KPEDD put together and bring it into one event where folks can come and seek out new opportunities.”
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, click here.
