Several communities on the Kenai Peninsula are receiving a boost in funding as part of more than $2 million in grants awarded by the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority this quarter.
The Seldovia Village Tribe was awarded $50,000 to upgrade equipment at its community health care center, supporting critical services for residents in the remote coastal village.
In Seward, the Seward Prevention Coalition received $50,000 to launch a youth mental health campaign aimed at improving awareness, support, and prevention efforts in the area.
Meanwhile, in Soldotna, the Kenai Peninsula Homelessness Coalition was granted $50,000 for building upgrades to the Nikiski Shelter of Hope, which will help create safer and more supportive housing for vulnerable community members.
These grants are part of the Trust’s $25 million annual grant program, which supports organizations that serve Alaskans experiencing mental illness, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, Alzheimer’s and related dementias, and traumatic brain injuries.
Trust CEO Dr. Mary Wilson said the funds are “positively impacting Trust beneficiaries and communities” statewide. In total, 26 projects across Alaska were funded this quarter, with an estimated $12.8 million in overall value when combined with other sources of support.
