The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development will host the Annual Job and Career Fair Thursday, April 6th at the Old Carrs Mall in Kenai from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This free community event, which is open to the public, will feature close to fifty vendors representing multiple employers and training providers from a variety of industries including the oil industry, health care, transportation, education, banking, law enforcement and others industries.

Sara Bieber, Gulf Coast Regional Manager for the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Department explained is being held at the Old Carrs Mall;

“And one of the things that we’re doing this year and having it over at the old carrs mall is because it’s right next door to the job center. So, people have the ability to come over print a resume even if they’re just passing through. And they can come over and use our services even do a quick mock interview before they meet with an employer. We also have the Wi-Fi capabilities and also just a little bit more space for folks to wander through and in the past over at the Sports Center we’ve had to put some people in the hallway. So, again a great venue and they do a wonderful job over there we’re just looking to bring back people through the jobs or job center doors and make them familiar with the facility.”

Attendees are asked to bring copies of your resume and dress for potential interviews at the Job and Career Fair.

During the event attendees will be able to discover apprenticeship and training opportunities throughout the Kenai Peninsula and the state of Alaska.

Bieber explains the opportunities for job seekers;

“The reason we call it the job and career fair is because we’re looking at those people that make might want to make a change as well or upscale or I’m not interested in this occupation or maybe they have a limitation that prevents them from doing that and they want to make a change. So, we have training providers as well we have entities like Kenai Peninsula Driving Instruction, Kenai Peninsula College , AVTEC will be there. We have several unions coming as well with apprenticeship opportunities and then of course we have the job center who can help people make that transition we can give you tools and ideas of what the labor market is like what’s growing in the area what the wages are associated with that. So, people can make informed decisions when they’re making that very life changing transition.”
