GCI’s philanthropy program, GCI Gives, has opened the application period for its 2022 grant cycle. Through November 15th, Alaska nonprofits have an opportunity to apply for funding from GCI. It opened on October 1st.
Heather Handyside, GCI’s Vice President of Corporate Communications told KSRM that Kenai Peninsula nonprofits are encouraged to apply:
“Every year, GCI gives away about two million dollars in funding and in-kind services and products to nonprofits across the state. Now, we’re opening up our application window. If folks go to www.GCI.com, nonprofits can submit applications between October 1st and November 15th to apply for support for their programs. We usually get between two and three hundred applications. We try to fund as many as we can. Over a hundred, maybe a hundred and forty tend to get funded, somewhere around that number every year.”
Handyside said that the GCI Gives contributions are focused on diversity and inclusion, cultural arts and innovation, education, healthy communities, youth, animals, and public safety:
“We are very interested in programs that are unique and support local communities. That is where we are really focused. We are really interested in Alaska specific requests. What I mean by that is that sometimes you have programs that work in the lower 48, but we all know that one size fits all doesn’t always work for Alaska. Unique Alaska programs that really address Alaska needs are what really appeal to us.”
GCI donates $2 million each year in cash, products and connectivity to organizations across the state in hopes of giving back to the communities they serve.
