The Kenai Peninsula Borough saw the second highest amount of population growth statewide between 2014 and 2015.
Estimates by the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development released on Thursday show that Alaska’s total population only increased slightly between July 2014-July 2015.
Only 11 of the state’s 29 borough’s grew during that time. The Matanuska-Susitna Borough was the largest area of growth in the state, seeing an increase of 1,801 people, while the Kenai Peninsula grew by only 348.
During that year, the Municipality of Anchorage lost the most residents with 1,458 subtracted from their population.
As for economy health between July 2014-July 2015, the Kenai Peninsula is included in the Gulf Coast region which ranked third, just behind the Northern region. The Anchorage/Mat-Su gained the most over the period.
Overall, Alaska’s job growth is below the national average, with the state showing less than a one percent growth in 2015 while jobs grew just over two percent nationally.
