Yesterday, March 26, Anchorage reported to have the lowest seasonal snowfall-to-date at 20.7 inches.
As for Kenai Peninsula Snowfall records…
Kutz: “We used to take them out at the airport starting in World War II but ended in 1999.”
Michael Kutz with the National Weather Service in Anchorage said it’s hard to find consistent cooperatives that will track precipitation.
He said one of the lowest snowfall seasons for the Kenai Peninsula was 14.3 inches in 1980-81 and delved into some other notable records.
Kutz: “Basically in your average, from what I can tell on things right now, average annual is just shy of 61 inches, 60.9. The greatest snowfall you’ve gotten that I see for the Kenai area looks like about a 135.8, that was in 1948-49. 118.9 in 1994-95.”
A slight chance of snowfall is predicted in the ten day forecast.
