The Kenai City Council will again consider a possible land donation to the Kenai Performers.
City Manager Rick Koch is requesting direction on how to address the Performer’s request.
Cassano: “We had written a letter and requested that the City consider donating about two acres to our non-profit organization for the erection of a permanent home.”
Sally Cassano said the group has been looking for a new home, but couldn’t find an existing building that suits their needs. They initially requested 2 acres at the intersection of the Kenai Spur Highway and Evergreen St.
Councilors were concerned that the significant donation would set a precedent for the future. Instead, they suggested a very low-cost lease, but Cassano insisted the Performers need to be the official owners…
Cassano: “Well the ownership of the property would better enable us to use the value of that land when we’re writing for grants.”
Mayor Pat Porter insisted land donations can be dealt with on a case by case basis.
Tonight’s meeting will begin at 7pm in the Kenai City Council Chambers.
