The City of Kenai is again pursuing the Board of Fisheries to have the 2017 Upper Cook Inlet Finfish meeting on the Kenai Peninsula.
Vice Mayor Brian Gabriel said although the board did schedule a 2016 October work session on the peninsula where public testimony would be taken, there were still questions.
Gabriel: “We needed to know if that public testimony would be on the record, number one, and number two, what latitude they would have to speak on the testimony, whether it would be to the proposals that the board of fish would be considering which is sort of the crux of what we wanted to have the meeting down here for.”
Last year the Kenai and Soldotna City Councils, along with the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly signed resolutions supporting a proposal to have the 2017 Finfish meeting here.
Gabriel said he has put the proposal on the agenda again for the 2015 October work session in the hopes that the board might change its mind.
Proposals for any fish but Polluck to be included in this upcoming work session are required to be submitted by Friday, April 10, 2015.
