The Kenai River Brown Bears never lead and, in fact, only scored three goals in a pair of road losses to the Anchorage Wolverines on Friday and Saturday in Anchorage at the Ben Boeke Arena.

Kenai Rivers scoring woes continue as the Brown Bears have recorded only 35 goals in 19 games and have a point differential of -50 (allowing 85 goals).

Kenai River stands at 3-16 in the Midwest Division of the North American Hockey League, currently in eighth place in the eight-team division. The Anchorage Wolverines own a 12-5-1-0 record and are third in the Midwest Division. The Fairbanks Ice Dogs own first place in the Midwest with a record of 13-7-0-1.

Brown Bears 2 – Wolverines 6

The Wolverines opened with a two-goal, first period and a 2-0 lead. Kenai River’s Ryan Finch scored in the second period to draw the Brown Bears to within a goal at 2-1. The Wolverines responded with four-straight goals for a 6-1 lead after two periods. Luke Helgeson scored for the Brown Bears in the third period. Final Score: Wolverines 6, Brown Bears 2.

Brown Bears 1 – Wolverines 4

On Saturday, Kenai River’s Nick Stevens scored on a power play goal late in the second period with the Brown Bears trailing 3-0. A third period Wolverine goal completed the scoring in a 4-1 Wolverine victory.

Kenai River opens a three-game series against the Springfield Jr. Blues on Thursday, November 18th at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex. The Springfield Jr. Blues are currently in second place in the Midwest Division with a record of 13-7-0-1.

Thursday’s game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time. Friday and Saturday games will drop to puck at 7:30 p.m. each night.
