Kenai River Festival Kicks Off Friday

The Kenai River Festival will start Friday, June 6, and go through this weekend.

We spoke with Lisa Beranek with the Watershed Forum about the festival.

Beranek: “Kenai River Festival is actually a long going, community facet, the festival itself is in its 24th year and the Kenai Watershed Forum is proud to host this event. Basically what it is is a community celebration of the Kenai River, so what we attempt to do is to bring folks in our community together through free concerts, food, Alaskan made crafts.

She also said there are many educational opportunities for kids at the festival.

Beranek: “We have a KWF Kids Zone with over 25 free hands on educational activities that are river related so that kids can come out and have a great day.”

The festival will be in a new location this year, Centennial Campground right by the Kenai River. Beranek said that although camping is not allowed in the campground during the festival, the camping spots can be used for additional parking for festival attendees.
