Kenai River Marathon Crowns Seven Race Champions

The 2014 Kenai River Marathon event featured a full marathon, half marathon and 5-kilometer events on Sunday competed through the streets of Kenai and Soldotna. The three distances for the Kenai River Marathon day attracted 219 participants.

Full Marathon: Men

Peter Svenning raced to the men’s full marathon title.  From Palm City, Florida, Svenning completed the 26.2 mile course in 3 hours, 29:02 seconds.

Sean Campbell of Homer posted the fastest finish for a peninsula runner, finishing 4th overall.

Full Marathon: Women

Whitney Barnett of Anchorage posted the fastest women’s full marathon time, completing the course in 3 hours, 34:5 minutes.

Susan Craig from Soldotna was the fastest local runner finishing 3rd overall, just 10 minutes off the winner’s time.

Relay Marathon

Team Tesoro captured the relay event with a time of 3 hours, 12:30.  The local team Miscoots finished second; team members included: Bryan Frapp, Jason Buckbee, Stephanie Winter and Rachel Nevendorf.

Half Marathon: Men

Andy Liebner (from Michigan), formerly of Soldotna and past SoHi cross country running state champion, posted the fastest half marathon time of 1 hour, 14:42 minutes.

Half Marathon: Women

Sharon Ehasz from JBER won the women’s event in 1 hour, 41:44 minutes.

5-Kilometer: Men

Lance Chilton, Soldotna, recorded a 23:06 to win the 5K event.

5-Kilometer: Women

Susie Smith from Valdez posted a 25:51 and April Chilton from Soldotna a 27:04.
